A Message from Superintendent Polm Regarding the Recent Blue Heron/OCEAN Principal Search Process

Most families are aware that Principal Gaffney has stepped down and accepted the position of Dean of Students at Port Townsend High School beginning fall of 2018. The district recently completed a process that included advertising the open position, and the subsequent screening, interviewing and reference calling on candidates for the position.

After much deliberation, my decision is to seek an interim principal for the 2018-2019 school year.  My thinking is that the best plan is to begin the search for a principal at the beginning of the hiring season, which would be just after the new year in January of 2019. This timeline will enable our district to have the largest pool of potential candidates.

Thank you to all who participated in the process this June.  Special thanks to the committee who participated in a long day of interviews. I will do my best to find a quality, experienced interim principal to serve Blue Heron and OCEAN and will have an announcement as soon as an interim is hired.
